Welcome to Utrecht Tempe!

Hi all…it’s Paul at Utrecht.  I’ve been a Tempe resident for a little over 3 years now and am amazed at how much the artist community has changed and grown in such a short time.  Since I’ve been here, we have a new Mesa Art Center, and the new Tempe Center for the Arts.  The Tempe Artists Guild, which was inactive for a few years, is finally up and running again with more members than ever.  And the new light-rail train with a stop right in front of our store will provide us with direct, traffic-free, access to the happening and ever-changing art scene in downtown Phoenix.

For those who are unfamiliar with our store, we are located on the northeast corner of University and Mill in the Cornerstone Shopping Center. Utrecht Tempe is a full service art supplies store carrying products from hundreds of national brands.  Although most of our customers are students at the area colleges, we also service many professional artists.  Utrecht prides itself on carrying top-quality, professional grade art products at the lowest prices possible.

In addition to selling art supplies, all of the employees at Utrecht Tempe are artists themselves, each with our own specialty.  I work in Watercolors and Acrylics, Cecilia is a wiz with colored pencils, and Gail likes to get down and dirty with clay.  The rest of our staff has interests in metal sculpture, printmaking, rubber molding, bookmaking, and airbrushing.  Of course, drawing inspiration from all of the cool art supplies that surround us, each of us also likes to dabble in other areas outside of our prime interests.  Our weekly shipments are the most exciting days for us, as we scramble to open boxes in anticipation of seeing and playing with the newest arrival of art supplies.

We don’t just sell art supplies; we are active members of the local artist community.  And I’ll warn you that if you come into the store to ask a question, you might not be able to shut us up for 20 minutes.  Art is our passion, and we feel lucky to work in an environment where we get to encourage that same passion in others.
